For the past 3 months, I have been making a fresh fruit & veggie juice for hubby and I each morning. Don’t worry. I haven’t turned into one of those raving Wellness Warriors that’s going to shove a healthy idea down your throat!
I’m still a pasta loving, champagne sipping, hot dog junkie at heart. The only reason I’m sharing this with you is because a few friends have seen my freezer and marvelled at the brillIance of my morning ritual.
Mornings are precious and ain’t no body got time for juicing. We use to own a juicer but I got rid of it – too many parts to clean and I miss the extra fibre & pulp. So I’m sharing my favourite lifehack with you – how to make a healthy fruit juice that takes 30secs! Yes, you read that right!
Let my lifehack teaching lesson begin
Every Sunday, I visit our local fruit shop (Harris Farm) and stock up. The usual suspects always get purchased – bananas, apples, oranges, celery, mint and whatever else is in season. I cart the produce home and cut it all up into suitable size chunks for freezing. It takes around 10min to chop everything up.
Next I grab some snack size ziplock bags and throw in the cut up fruit! I like to mix it up and create different variations; watermelon/mint/pineapple or apple/orange/celery or kale/spinach/blueberries. The flavour options are endless! Pop the ziplock bags in the freezer and you’re now ready for blending the next day.
Wake up! Stretch. Take a pee. Grab a bag from the freezer. Pop the frozen fruit & veg into a blender with 400ml coconut water (or tap water) and blend for 30secs.
BOOM! One healthy fruit juice full of nutrients and fibre.
You can get creative and add protein powder, yoghurt, nut butters, chia seeds, almond milk etc to the blender. Most fruits are suitable for freezing; mangos, pineapple, watermelon, bananas, apples, mint, kale, spinach, strawberries, kiwi etc.
THE SWEETENER? You can prep a weeks worth of fruit in 10 minutes and have a healthy nutritious breakfast drink in just seconds. You’ll never waste spoiled fruit again!
JUICING vs BLENDING? Juicing removes the pulp – precious fibre – and leaves you with a pulp free drink. Blending pulverises the fruit and leaves you with a slushy juice containing loads of fibre that is perfect for our digestive tract and slows down the absorption of sugar. Great in summer as it’s icy cold. In winter, just add some warm water to the blender so the juice isn’t to cold to drink.
